The drug Soma is used to treat muscle pain. It blocks pain sensations between the nerves and the brain system. It is used together with the rest and the physical therapy to treat skeletal muscle conditions such as pain or in case of injury. This drug should only be used for the short time periods (up to 2 to 3 weeks) because there is no proof of its effect in long term medication and most skeletal muscle injuries are generally of the short time period. Take the doses of this drug exactly as prescribed by your doctor for you. 

Carefully follow all the directions written on your prescription label and read all of the medication guide or instructions. This drug may be habit-forming as it is a highly addictive drug. The abuse or improper use of this drug can lead to addiction, overdose, or death. Selling or giving away this medicine is illegal in law.


  • Soma should be or usually taken three times per day and at bedtime.
  • The doses should be 250 to 350 mg or to be taken orally three times a day or at bedtime.
  • It should be only be taken for 2 or 3 weeks, do not use its medication more than this.
  • Seek emergency medical help if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse than before. Follow your expert’s instructions of doses very carefully.

Precautions and side effects

You should not consume this medicine if you are allergic to Soma or meprobamate or if you have Porphyria, it is a genetic enzyme disorder that causes symptoms affecting the skin or the nerve system.

Tell your doctor or physician if you have ever had the problems such as:

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • A seizure

It is not known whether this drug can harm a fetus. Tell your physician if you are pregnant. The drug Soma is not approved for the use by anyone who is younger than 16 years old. The older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. The duration of therapy of Soma should be up to 2 to 3 weeks not much.


The drug Soma should only be used for short periods of 2 or 3 weeks as there is inadequate evidence of effectiveness for more long use and acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions are generally of short duration.

Do not take this medicine if you have:

  • Seizure
  • hallucinations
  • Shivering
  • Fast heart rate
  • Fever
  • Sweating
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Twitching
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Loss of coordination
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
